Overview
SMD has supplied miniature force, pressure, and non-invasive air-in-line sensors to medical device OEMs for decades. Approximately 90% of SMD products are custom engineered to fit specific applications and aggressive cost targets, and our engineering team supports device design from concept through production — for syringe and IV infusion pumps, surgical robotics, birthing simulators, and neonatal screening. Manufacturing is ISO certified with IPC-620 trained assembly.
Sensing Challenges
SMD's proprietary ultrasonic “smart” bubble sensors are calibrated to detect unsafe air bubbles while ignoring nuisance bubbles in IV, syringe, and ablation cooling pumps.
Custom load cells and force sensors measure axial force, occlusion pressure, and tactile feedback in devices such as syringe pumps, robotic hands, and urinary incontinence instruments.
